The Best Way to Water Your Grass
- Soak With 1 to 1.5 Inches, Twice Per Week: Two deep watering cycles every 3 to 4 days is what your lawn needs most.
- Water Just Before Dawn: Watering early in the morning gives it time to drain deep into the soil before the sun evaporates it.
- Know Your Soil Conditions and Address Properly: Royal Lawn Care’s team can help you identify if your lawn is rich with nutrients and healthy topsoil, or sod laid on top of dirt. Depending on your situation, your lawn may need aeration or an application of gypsum or compost. The richer the soil, the more likely the water will have deep root systems to feed, rather than just becoming runoff.
- Avoid Overwatering: In most cases, people overwater their lawns. Overwatering causes the roots to get all the moisture they need from the top layer of soil, discouraging them from growing deeper. As a result, your irrigation system ends up needing to supply more water.
- Focus Water on Problem Areas: If you’re using an irrigation system, focus on the zones that are having growth trouble. Always adjust by zone, rather than turning the whole irrigation system up for the entire yard. Monitor your yard by zones throughout the season, adjusting accordingly. When temperatures rise or drought conditions occur, increase your irrigation dial.
