Tips for Recovering Lawns With Flood Damage

Stay Off the Grass

Initially, it’s best to stay off of your grass while flood waters and puddles are still high. The soggy soil mixed with your footprints may damage the lawn and plant roots.

Remove Debris

It’s likely that the flood and rain runoff will bring with it debris from the road, nearby yards, fallen branches, etc. All of this will only hurt the lawn’s growth even more if it continues to sit on top of it and suffocate the grass from oxygen. Minimize your steps throughout the flooded lawn but do your best to help remove the debris.

Remove Top Layers of Mulch & Soil Deposits

Once the big debris is gone, you should look toward the top layers of mulch and any soil, silt, or sand the flood brought to your lawn. Getting rid of it will help the grass dry faster and it will leave room for better organic material to be added.

Nourish

Finally, with all of the cleanup and aeration completed, it’s time to help the new grass grow! Apply fertilizer, new grass seed, sod, and new mulch from what has been scraped away and ruined. This will all help your soil to become healthy again.

Now that you know where to begin, contact Royal Lawn Care for expert help recovering your lawn to its full potential!
