Soil Aeration
Soil aeration is done by perforating the soil with small holes to allow air, water, and nutrients to reach the grass roots. This process is started in the fall once soil temperatures begin to drop and the roots are able to soak up the greatest amount of nutrients. This helps the grass roots grow deeply and produce a stronger and fuller lawn that will last through the season.
Additionally, the main reason soil aerating is so important is because it alleviates soil compaction. The compacted soils of your lawn have too many solid particles within a confined space that prevents proper circulation of air, water, and nutrients in the soil and stops the lawn’s roots from receiving them.
Lawn Top Dressing & Overseeding
Lawn top dressing and overseeding can be completed after core aeration. Top dressing is done to help rejuvenate the soil with the necessary nutrients and new organic material. The microorganisms from new organic material will be reintroduced to the soil making it much stronger and healthier. Plus, the added compost can help amend the soil, and even fix compaction issues.
Overseeding is another process we recommend to clients this time of year to help your lawn stay healthy through the cold weather. Whether your grass is struggling completely or maintaining itself well in many areas, overseeding is always beneficial. The process includes planting new grass seeds in thinning areas to improve the density of the lawn and enhance its color.
